Our last full day at Daraja! Our day started with the usual breakfast, swahili lessons, and work at the garbage pit. We carried all the tools to the workplace where we started by clearing the holes for the poles that dirt had fallen into. We made cement then filled the holes with piles with it which sounds fast but took nearly two hours to get everything done! While carrying water across the field to make the cement, Paul took a nice stumble and spilt the water al over himself which was a pretty nice bit of humour to spice up the work! During lunch we got an amazing surprise visit from Yvonne, Maureen, and Lewis. Yvonne is a Daraja Almuni who is currently studying at AFTA and on saturday won 1st place in the race for Miss Tourism, Laikipia County, 2018. Maureen was the runner up, as Lewis was the male winner. They all were dressed up so beautifully and gave a short speech to everyone which seemed to have a huge impact on all of the Daraja girls. After lunch we gathered in another area to make a big peace sign out of rocks. Then we had free time so we chilled at the lounge with the three “celebrity visitors”. Yvonne shared her experience about how attending Daraja led her to where she is now with such a promising future. Then it was time for more sports where most of us spent our last time with our new Daraja friends. Supper was emotional as we all knew it would be or last dinner together. After many hugs and tears we knew the girls had to get back to their class so we left to the lounge for some group planning and schedule and shopping rundown for the next few days. This past week at Daraja has truly been life changing and I know for a fact that none of us are near ready to leave this beautiful family.
