Kongoni Primary School! We had a super early start to our day so we could walk and make it to school on time! After about 20 minutes we arrived at Kongoni and were greeted by Simon who is the principal and who is organizing everything for us this week! The school is grade 1-7 as well as a program for age 3-5 age kids. We started our day by splitting up into partners and all going to a different classroom, but after a few sessions is was time for lunch. School was only a half day so we got to go back to the campground but Simon said our presence was having a major affect on the students in terms of overwhelming them and distracting them so he is working to plan the next week with us to make it best for everyone. The kids are preparing for government exams so we will likely not get to teach at all, but we will have many opportunities to play and interact with them!! They were all so eager to talk to us and from our observation it is safe to say they are definitely not very familiar with having mzungus around so it is extremely new for them. After lunch we went back to the campground where we did some assignments then had free time (which meant a real shower- with warm water!!) and sitting by the lake relaxing. The lake has many different dangerous animals including hippos so we can’t go swimming but it is still incredibly beautiful to look at! We ended our night with Emma and I doing “5 Minutes of Fame” to end our time as Leaders of the Week! We went to bed very early once again because we knew friday would be a busy one!
