What a day! Today we started our day by cleaning and scrubbing our part of The Castle from head to toe because we are leaving tomorrow (the 27th). After a few hours of cleaning we relaxed then began packing our small backpacks with whatever we need for our week at Daraja Academy. We transferred everything to our big overland truck ( who we named Turbo after one of Debs and Thiemo’s dogs) so when we leave we would have much less to do. During dinner Emma boldly threw the idea of us shaving her head into conversation. Before we knew it, two of our group members talked to Debs who lent us her clippers (the ones she uses on the dogs) and before we knew it, the sun was setting and the clippers were plugged in. Emma sat in the chair as we all took turns snipping off pieces of her curly hair. After a couple hours, there were only a handful of us left on the deck in the dark, while everyone else had gone to bed. Daniella and Kat took turns playing the ukulele and we all sang songs and just embraced that night together. You had to be there to understand but this night was one of the most incredible, bizarre, and special nights many of us had ever had. By the time we finished, we decided it was a good idea to go to bed and prepare for our 5:30 am go time in the morning!!
(p.s. Emma’s hair looks amazing!)
